A Bit of Vincent
Vincent van Gogh was born in Holland in 1853. He had a happy
childhood although he was a moody and lonely child. Following a series of failed career choices, (1) Vincent began his artistic journey at the age of 27. This legendary painter is a great example indicating to us that it’s never too late to follow our dreams.
(2) When he was alive, he could only sell one painting, The Red Vineyard, which is quite strange but true. He sold the painting to another impressionist painter, Anna Boch, for 400 Francs. It was not until after his death that van Gogh became famous. (3) He was an extremely productive artis. He created over 900 paintings in the decade before his death at the age of 37. Another interesting
fact about Vincent is that he was a real selfie king. Although selfie is a recent term, some argue that he was the best in post-impressionistic selfies. Between 1886 and 1889, he painted about 40 self-portraits, using his own reflection because he was too poor to pay for models.

The main message of the painting, The Red Vineyard, is that the people living at the end of the 19th century had to work long hours. When I look at it carefully, I see the sun in a yellow sky. The sun makes the vine leaves at the bottom of the painting look red. A lot of people, mainly dressed in blue, are working in the vineyard. The field workers are picking vines. They naturally blend in with the vineyard. On the top left, there is a series of blue and green trees, and in the middle background, there is a house.
